How to Cut and Install Hardware Cloth
While our cloth is the perfect size for many applications, you may need to cut it to fit some openings. Tin snips are usually sharp enough to cut the cloth, but for safety, be sure to wear gloves and use eye protection. Once you have the tools you need, follow these steps:
- Measure and mark the cut. We recommend measuring a couple of times to avoid mistakes and wasted cloth.
- Check for any hidden obstructions, such as pipes, wiring, vents, or existing structural supports that you may need to work around when cutting.
- Cut along the lines you marked using tin snips, and then position the mesh so it sits flat against the surface.
- Use fasteners to secure the cloth and make sure to close any loose sections or gaps.
- Fold any sharp ends to protect your hands.
