How early should I get hive boxes ready for the bees?
Before your bee nucs or package bees arrive. Pickup dates are set, so that week isn’t the time to treat equipment. Finish the boxes and let them dry completely, since a colony shouldn’t move into a damp box.
Why glue hive box joints before applying the treatment?
The treatment is mixed with water, and wood swells as it absorbs moisture. If you don’t glue the joints first, that swelling can pull them apart and warp the box. Glue holds each joint tight while the wood takes up the liquid and dries, so the box stays square. Let the glue cure fully, then mix the packet and treat the boxes.
What can I do with leftover eco wood treatment?
Use it on other outdoor wood. Mixed treatment keeps for one year, so there’s no rush.
Where should I place a new hive to keep the wood dry?
Pick well-drained ground, not low spots that flood. Face the entrance toward the morning sun so it dries the dew sooner. Set the hive on a stand for airflow underneath, and tilt it forward so rain runs out the entrance.
