Use It as a Swarm Trap
These boxes also make great swarm traps. Place five frames of drawn comb inside, secure the lid with the rubber strap, and position the box in a tree or another spot near your apiary. When you are ready to move the swarm, seal the entrance with the cap plug.
How to Assemble and Prepare a Cardboard Bee Nuc Box
Before adding bees, take a few minutes to prepare your nuc box correctly. A secure setup helps protect the bee nuc and makes handling easier.
- Fold the box along its creases and use a Riteway stapler to secure the corners and bottom.
- Attach the lid firmly, checking that all edges are properly fastened and no section is loose.
- Place the prepared frames inside the box, making sure they sit evenly and leave enough room for the bees to move naturally.
- Set up the entrance and ventilation openings before introducing bees. Check that screens and plugs are positioned as needed for the intended use.
- Inspect the finished box for gaps or weak staples before moving your bee nuc.
