When it comes to raw honey, purity matters. At Meyer Bees, we understand how important it is to keep honey as close to its natural form as possible. That’s why we follow a careful process that lets us collect honey without removing the nutrients and natural flavors. Every step we take supports healthy hives and ensures our honey keeps its natural benefits.
Our method of raw honey processing starts with smart hive management. We monitor our bees and their hives closely throughout the season. When it’s the right time, we add honey supers. This gives the bees extra space to store honey while allowing them to keep enough for their survival, especially during the cold winters in Chicago, Illinois. We care deeply about our bees and never take more honey than we should.
Gentle Harvesting and Extraction
Once the bees cap the frames in a honey super, we know it’s time to harvest. Our team brings the frames to our honey extraction room in Minooka, IL. From there, we carefully remove the wax cappings. This wax isn’t wasted—we save it and later use it in candles, lip balm, and more.
After removing the caps, we spin the frames in an extractor. This machine spins fast, pulling the honey out of the comb without damaging it. The honey then flows through a mesh screen. This is where our beekeeping honey production process really protects the honey’s goodness. The screen removes large wax pieces and debris, but it lets the important stuff through—pollen, nutrients, and enzymes all stay in the honey.
No Heating, No Mixing
At Meyer Bees, we never pasteurize or blend our honey. That means we don’t heat it up to high temperatures, which could damage its natural enzymes. We also don’t add anything to it. The honey you buy from us is 100% raw. It tastes just as it did when it came out of the hive. This is what makes our raw honey processing different—we keep it simple, clean, and honest.
Our honey changes slightly with every season. That’s because the flowers blooming at different times of the year give the honey new flavors and colors. It’s nature’s way of offering variety, and we love that! We extract and bottle honey several times each season to capture these changes.
Bottling With Care
Once the honey is extracted, we bottle it with care. We offer both glass and plastic bottles and can even create custom packaging for special events like weddings or gift baskets. If you’re in the Minooka area, stop by our store. Or you can buy our wildflower honey online.
We manage hives across several towns in the Chicagoland area—places like Plainfield, Joliet, Downers Grove, Homer Glen, and more. These locations provide diverse nectar sources, which help create our rich wildflower honey blend.
Working With Other Beekeepers
While we love our wildflower honey, we also work with other beekeepers in North America who specialize in monofloral honey. These types of honey come from bees that mainly feed on one type of flower. The beekeepers time the placement and removal of honey supers just right so that the flavor stays pure.
In our Minooka showroom, you can find these unique honey types—like Orange Blossom, Blueberry Blossom, Buckwheat, and Tupelo Blossom, just to name a few. Each has its own flavor and color, depending on the flower.
Clean and Natural Products
Our beekeeping honey production doesn’t end with honey. We also collect bee pollen when it’s safe for the hive. We package it cleanly and offer it in limited supply. Just like our honey, our bee pollen is never altered or over-processed.
